Cheryl Strayed was the first woman to walk the Pacific Crest Trail (Mexico to Canada) alone.
The script was written by Nick Hornby, based on Cheryl's memoir. Reese Witherspoon received an Oscar nomination for her role, as did Laura Dern (in the Best Supporting Actress category) for playing Cheryl's mother, Bobbi Grey.
